Huichol Art - Big figures - Lined with beads
Wood carvings decorated with beads or yarn applications are widely recognized. In many cases, the only Huichol are responsible for decorating carved by Indians from the states of Oaxaca and Guerrero figures. It is in a community with deeply rooted to their traditions where one of the most magical and artistic expressions representative of the country originates: Huichol art (wixarika). Or Wixárika Huichol are an indigenous community living in the central west of the country, in the Sierra Madre Occidental, are mainly in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit, as well as some parts of Durango and Zacatecas. This magical and cosmic atmosphere has been preserved over time. Today each artisan integrates each of his pieces a reflection of everyday life made with different materials such as glass beads or yarn (worsted) where the colors and shapes are of unique beauty. Scorpions, iguanas, turtles, deer, jaguars, cups or wells and even masks are just some of the forms of these deities embodied in Huichol art.
